You may have noticed an interesting addition to the landscape at AES, a weather tower! Mr. Flood's 4/5 Science class is in the middle of studying weather and what better way to learn about measuring weather than to have our own personal weather station. The station went online on Tuesday and will collect measurements of temperature, wind speed/direction, humidity, pressure, and rain precipitation while uploading the information automatically to Weather Underground (a subsidiary of the Weather Channel).
Anyone can view current conditions by visiting wunderground.com or downloading the app and searching for station KMEBAILE9 or by entering zip code 04694 and searching for Alexander Elementary.
Alexander Elementary has been selected by the Invest in ME initiative as the Champion School for Washington County! AES and several other schools across the state applied for the honor during the 2017-18 school year, completing an application that outlined current and planned future parental and community involvement initiatives.
Invest in ME is an initiative targeting kindergarten age students and their parents with the purpose of planning for the future. As a result of being selected for county champion, AES will receive a grant and supplies to be used for our kindergarten students! AES will also be the host site for at least two workshops this year. These workshops are aimed at Washington County parents of kindergarten age students, but are open to all. Representatives from NextGen, FAME, and the Alfond Foundation will be on hand to provide information and resources.
Dates for the workshops are to be announced.
