Here at Alexander Elementary we ended 2017 with wonderful, fun learning experiences. We look forward to more exciting learning adventures in 2018. Just before our Christmas break, on Monday, December 18th, we had a day filled with some magical experiences for our students. That day we knew as “Grinch Day”! Classrooms from Pre-K to 3rd grade had interesting visits from the Grinch himself, as he had stopped in to redecorate their rooms in his Grinchy style. He made a lot of changes trying to coerce the students to follow his style of decision making. Now for those of you who may not be familiar with Mr. Grinch, he tends to make unkind choices, such as attempting to take away Christmas from the folks of Whoville (See Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas). The students knew kinder things to do, and we spent part of our “Grinch Day” discussing kindness to others and how we could befriend someone, even the Grinch. There was quite a spectacle to be seen. Classrooms were truly in disarray; there were green additions to the rooms to make it more Grinch themed. Students had even been asked to wear green for this day, not yet knowing that the Grinch was their visitor. Some of our teaching staff had even dressed up for the occasion, including a Grinch and a Cindy-Lou Who. The Grinch was tied into our classes throughout the day. He influenced our math, spelling, reading, and writing lessons. The topic of the Grinch really had us thinking during our class time...too bad he had only left us with green writing utensils and art supplies that day, but we made due until the other ones were returned. After lunch time, the Grinchy fun continued! All ages throughout the school gathered in the gym to hear the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas in a read aloud, watch the cartoon adaptation of the story, and enjoy some Grinch inspired snacks! It appeared that a fun time was had by all! Comments are closed.
