Alexander Elementary has been approved by the MDOE to operate as a “School-wide” Title I school. School-wide Title-I programs allow schools to use Title I funds to meet the needs of ALL students in reading and math throughout the year. In a SW Title-1 program, all students are considered Title-1 students.
WHAT IS TITLE-I ?
Our school gets the funds from the federal government for special programs and services under Title I, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015. Title I services are for students who need extra academic help, regardless of their economic background. The amount of money we get under Title I, Part A depends on how many students in our school are from low-income families. The income information of our families is protected information according to privacy laws. The information families provide regarding income is NOT shared with school staff or made public.
WHAT IS A “SCHOOL-WIDE” TITLE-I PROGRAM?
A school-wide program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school; its primary goal is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on State academic achievement standards.
Unlike a Targeted Assistance program, a school-wide program provides educational services to all students, improves all structures that support student learning and aligns all resources to achieve a common goal: improved student achievement for all students. A School-wide Title I Program allows us the opportunity to combine Title I funds with other federal, state, and local money to upgrade the entire program of our school. This allows us to better meet all of our students’ academic needs.
School-wide Programs Benefits
WHAT IF MY CHILD WAS ALREADY RECEIVING TITLE-I SERVICES?
This does not change services for any students already receiving academic support through the Title program, these students will continue to receive support.
WHAT IF MY CHILD NEEDS ACADEMIC SUPPORT?
Students in need of academic support in math and/or reading are eligible to automatically receive support by our Title-I staff. Support often occurs directly in the classroom, however, small group/individual instruction may occur as well.
