ALEXANDER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - AOS #77- ALEXANDER, MAINE

Principal Letter to Families

8/3/2020

August 3, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I would like to take this opportunity to provide you information on returning to instruction for Fall 2020. At the time of this letter, it is our intention to return to in-person learning. Note the following important changes to the school calendar:

  • AOS 77 schools first student day will be September 8, 2020.
  • AOS 77 schools will adopt a condensed student day (5.5 hours).

Circumstances around in-person learning, including recommendations and guidelines from the Maine DOE and CDC can change prior to the start of the school year, affecting our planning and decision making. More details about the schedule changes and how a return to in-person will look are contained within the school’s draft plan, available on our website this week:

www.alexanderelementary.org

Please understand that this plan is a draft document that contains required safety measures and important information from the Maine DOE and CDC framework guiding all schools into a new school year. The plan will be considered for adoption at the August 11th school committee meeting.

Student and staff safety is the highest priority. As we navigate through these difficult times, the safety measures in place will make returning to school this year look different than any other school year. Preparing your family prior to the start of the school year for these changes can help for a smoother transition. The school website will be updated during the month of August with resources to help families prepare for a return to school.

I thank you in advance for your understanding and support as we overcome these challenges together, for the safety and education of our children.

Sincerely,

Trevor Flood
Principal
